They are the first and second Metal Gear characters to appear, with the next one being Raiden.Otacon and Solid Snake are the second and third Konami characters to appear, after White Bomberman, and with the next two being Raiden and Dracula Vlad Ţepeş.I'm impressed! Your security's pretty state of the art. Please tell me it's not a cardboard box.Until we know what you're up against, I suggest you keep yourself out of sight. I'll start scanning radio frequencies to see if I can find any comm lines, but Snake.
If they're operating out here, it couldn't possibly be anyone we're familiar with. Maybe everyone's out for a late night dinner?
Ok Snake, I've finished uploading the building schematics to your Solid Eye. Removed the AI controlling the Patriots' system. The two would then form a great comradery, with Otacon helping Snake during all of his major missions, and eventually overcoming the follies of his past. During development, he was led to believe that REX was actually a mobile defense system, but once he learned of REX's true purpose, the Sons of Big Boss captured Otacon and secluded him on Shadow Moses Island, where they forced him to continue work on Metal Gear REX under heavy guard, until he was later rescued by Solid Snake. After some obligatory childhood trauma, Hal went on to master in engineering and eventually became the chief engineer of the Metal Gear REX superweapon, operating under the codename "Otacon". The small percentage of losing comes from the fact that Sam might get lucky, because Snakes are tragic enough characters that it's conceivable that they lose, as long as it fits with the story.Hal Emmerich grew up with his parents in an XOF research facility in Afghanistan, but was sent to America in fear of experimentation. If you were to pit typical Snake's obstacles in increasing difficulty against Sam, and Sam's typical obstacles against Snake, Sam would eventually lack the right plot devices grounded in his universe to survive, while Snake easily could handle Sam's obstacles with a banana.Įssentially, it comes down to whoever has the most conceivable solutions to the most diverse set of problems, and Snake wins more than 99.9% of the time. Splinter Cell is fairly grounded while MGS can be batshit insane, so while Sam's toughest obstacle may be a bunch of heavily armed guys, and his solution is to incapacitate them, Snake's obstacles are often giant megaweapons and supersoldiers, and he can do whatever wacky thing Kojima can imagine to get out of a sticky situation. That said, during cutscenes the game can come up with whatever plot point it wants to keep its protagonist alive, and in this case Metal Gear can go way further when it comes to problems and solutions.
Video game protagonists usually have the inherent superpower that they can never lose, because their canon relies on the fact that they always accomplish their mission (if they die during gameplay, time resets and they try again.) I let this go because it makes for great storytelling and an interesting rivalry.Ĭrossover fights between protagonists like this are ridiculous in the first place because they don't account for the metadata that describes each character's abilities. If this was the case, they wouldn't be identical twins nor "perfect" clones of Big Boss.
I love Sam Fisher as a stealth fan, but this was not going to be a very competitive fight from the start.Īlso, they just HAD to put Snake's speech about the cardboard box in the middle of the battle lolz.Įdit: Technically, if Solid Snake is indeed a "perfect" clone of Big Boss and the identical twin of Liquid Snake, I am very positive that you can't have one twin have all of the recessive genes and the other with all the dominant. Also the fact that the Metal Gear Franchise has Snake fighting giant ass bipedal machines and fantastical opponents makes anything that Sam does look pitiful. Solid is already genetically predisposed to be equal or surpass Big Boss, who would also probably beat Sam Fisher. This is somewhat unfair of a fight considering that Solid Snake is quite literally a super soldier cloned and trained by the greatest solider ever in the MGS universe whereas Sam Fisher, while definitely an elite combatant, is still a normal person.
